Athena has arisen. Did you notice? Here is Palin, born fully-formed, fully armed, smartly dressed, from a pain in McCain's head -- a lack of hope, as had Zeus with that migraine, in this case Democrats. Watch yourselves, Athena worshippers. This warrior goddess might also rule wisdom, but recall that when Posiden, her uncle, raped Medusa, her priestess, in her temple ... Athena made of lovely Medusa a Gorgon. Remember, not every powerful woman is a friend of women, and some thrive on defending Daddy's rule -- not being strong enough to confront Dad or Uncle, she will turn on her sisters.
Also, in sorrow, dear David Foster Wallace, there are days when I really get it. Rest you now, come back in better times when you won't need that coat of irony. And to your wife and family, my heart's strength in this mourning. We still here will love the world in your stead.
Shane's Comment was so right on the money, I'm moving up front!
We are forced to underwrite the arsonists to keep from burning, because self-regulation has self-destructed. The ideological clusterfuck rivals the national one. As, well, David Foster Wallace said:
In one of his last published writings (how terrible it feels to put it that way) David Foster Wallace referred to “the sound of our U.S. culture right now” as Total Noise: “a culture and volume of info and spin and rhetoric and context that I know I’m not alone in finding too much to even absorb, much less to try to make sense of or organize into any kind of triage of saliency or value. Such basic absorption, organization, and triage used to be what was required of an educated adult, a.k.a. an informed citizen – at least that’s what I got taught. Suffice it here to say that the requirements now seem different.... In sum, to really try to be informed and literate today is to feel stupid nearly all the time, and to need help. That’s about as clearly as I can put it.”
