Well, it was Labor Day weekend, and that means Texas, party throwing, and home improvement projects. No, not the usual Club Skye in Austin, but a housewarming party for Karen in her new place. So, level, drill, hammer in hand, Christina and Karen and I assembled furniture, hung pictures, arranged do-dads, and generally made that house beautiful through a fluid process of doing whatever looked good/necessary next. Then on to dressing our pretty selves and laying out of the spread.
The spread involved some prosciutto and a dip with bacon and horseradish in it, so you know who was happy about that! Almost didn't share.
Most of our revelers were old friends from the Institution. Mo is well, though his family could use your good energies, and reports that life in Iran is not better. John's doing fine, as always, and spreads a chipper kind of loving irony everywhere he goes. Candace and Rod are in fine shape, interesting classes to teach, a sabbatical coming up. Heather's feeling much stronger and sees the value in not making herself smaller for other people -- to which I say, "Keep That Up!". Her comps are coming up, so send her lots of good concentration vibes. Trayc and Byron glow together, and T might actually get it together to come see me in Oct. Joy! She's the coolest person I barely got to know before leaving the Megalopolis. And, she's making more room in her life for painting (which is selling nicely now) and film making, which is why she's here. This attributes of my Leap Out. I hope that's true. What's a life for if not to inspire others from time to time? Andrew and Hiram are, as always, suave on feet and generous of soul. Chris showed up too, and he's feeling that life is much more open and welcoming than he's felt in a long time. Which, YAY!
So, people got loved and Karen's house is in shape. Once again, Labor Day Weekend labor and fun worked out just splendidly. ---- Next up: Report from the Irigaray Circle.
