Sweet Rejection

I've had a chance to discuss your proposal materials for "A Poetics of Being Two" with the editors of our [Name of Series], and I'm afraid we've come the conclusion that while your proposal is very strong and compelling in many ways, it's not a good fit for the series.

We'd like to suggest that you contact, among other presses, Wesleyan, Duke, and Iowa, as we believe those presses may well be interested in the manuscript. I am sorry that we won't be able to work with you further on this, but I want to thank you again for thinking to contact us about the manuscript and I wish you every success in placing it with another publisher.

How kind, helpful, encouraging! No one need go so far as to say, Here, I like it, but I can't use it, send it over there where they might well. As first official book rejections go, this is Great!
